SportsPulse: The sports activities international held their collective breath when Cowboys QB Dak Prescott went down together with his brutal harm. Our very personal Jori Epstein describes what the scene used to be like throughout the stadium on this week’s home-field tracker.

USA TODAY

Sean McDermott isn’t any person who’s ever going to make excuses, and he didn’t make any Tuesday within the wake of the Buffalo Expenses’ egregiously unhealthy 42-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

By no means thoughts the nonsense that went on closing week with the NFL’s clumsy dealing with of the Titans’ COVID-19 outbreak and ready till Thursday night time to inform the Expenses that the sport used to be being moved from Sunday to Tuesday, and that their Thursday sport with Kansas Town used to be transferring to Monday.

Sure, that used to be inconvenient for the reason that Expenses spent a part of Titans week running at the Chiefs sport plan as a result of at one level it gave the impression imaginable the Titans sport could be postponed and the Chiefs sport could be performed on its authentic Thursday night time time slot.

McDermott obviously used to be perturbed by way of all of it as a result of when he used to be requested about it, he tersely answered, “I’ve were given no touch upon that. I appreciate your query, we are gonna transfer on.”

But it surely’s now not an excuse. “We were given beat this night and that begins with us. We aren’t about excuses. We predict to be able to move and clearly we weren’t able to move, so we’ve were given to be informed from this enjoy and develop from it. Once I watch the tape, I do know what I’ll see.”

It gained’t be beautiful, and he would possibly wish to purge all of it from his pc as soon as he’s completed gazing it as it’s a sport he and the Expenses would definitely like to overlook.

Right here’s how I graded the Expenses’ efficiency:

PASS OFFENSE: D

In every of the primary 4 video games, the Expenses’ passing assault seemed nearly unstoppable with guns everywhere the sphere and Josh Allen firing darts that almost all of his detractors by no means idea have been imaginable. However on this sport, it gave the impression of the 2019 model of Allen as he struggled together with his accuracy and decision-making, threw one unfortunate interception and person who used to be completely his fault. He completed the sport 26 of 41 for 263 yards and did throw a couple of TDs, although one used to be necessarily a handoff to Isaiah McKenzie on that little jet sweep push move Brian Daboll loves. The one actual TD move used to be a 22-yard bullet to T.J. Yeldon within the fourth quarter. The Expenses didn’t have John Brown, and that gave the impression to make a large distinction as a result of Andre Roberts needed to play a ways an excessive amount of, and the primary Allen select used to be a ball that Roberts must have stuck. There have been a number of dropped passes that harm, and the Expenses have been extremely sloppy with consequences, senseless false begins when crowd noise used to be now not a topic at the highway. Stefon Diggs used to be focused a whopping 16 instances and stuck 10 for 106 yards.

RUN OFFENSE: D-

The Expenses would not have a working sport, a minimum of now not until Allen is working round making performs on scrambles or designed keepers which, by way of the way in which, appear to have long gone by way of the wayside in Daboll’s playbook. Devin Singletary carried 11 instances for 25 yards and simply doesn’t seem like the explosive again we predict he’s. The offensive line may just now not get any push in opposition to a Tennessee run protection that got here into the sport ranked lifeless closing within the NFL in yards in line with rush try (five.eight). Buffalo’s longest run used to be by way of Allen, a whopping seven yards. In any case, the loss of a working sport harm the Expenses as a result of Allen and the passing sport used to be now not sharp and it wanted assist. None got here. The one vibrant spot used to be T.J. Yeldon changing 3 3rd downs with runs up the center after which breaking a meaningless 34-yard run within the ultimate minute which did not anything however inflate the general stats to 95 hole yards. I suppose that’s one thing, however it’s now not a lot.

PASS DEFENSE: D

Identical to the Expenses don’t have any run sport, in addition they don’t have any move rush. As in 0. Ryan Tannehill did no matter he sought after to do, status again within the pocket with a wide variety of time, after which when he did get flushed out, the Expenses had no containment and he used to be allowed to run for 42 yards together with a killer 10-yard landing that made the ranking 21-10 on the part. The Titans have been with out WRs Adam Humphries and Corey Davis, however that used to be offset by way of Buffalo enjoying with out CBs Tre’Davious White and Levi Wallace. That left the large matchup of the night time between Josh Norman and the Titans highest WR, A.J. Brown. It used to be a slaughter, and we would possibly now be seeing why Washington launched Norman. He seemed horrible, burned for a TD on the second one Tennessee play by way of Brown who went directly to catch seven for 82 yards. Nickel CB Taron Johnson used to be as soon as once more a significant legal responsibility, not able to hide someone he used to be faced with. And CB Cam Lewis gave the impression of the green apply squad participant that he’s. The Expenses have some main problems to handle as Patrick Mahomes licks his chops.

RUN DEFENSE: C-

General, the Expenses did a commendable activity on Derrick Henry as they held him to 57 yards on 19 carries. Alternatively, he did ranking on two quick TD plunges, and he had the spotlight play of the night time when he threw Norman out of his way as if he was a rag doll. That GIF will live for a long time down in the Music City. Tannehill’s legs were a problem and the Bills’ lack of discipline was the issue as they could not contain him when he got outside the pocket. The Bills are getting nothing from their defensive line, perhaps the most disappointing unit on the team besides tight end. There were only two tackles for loss which shows the front is getting no meaningful push. Tremaine Edmunds led the Bills with eight tackles and Tyrel Dodson filled in for Matt Milano and made seven. The Bills desperately need Milano back.

SPECIAL TEAMS: D

Worst game of the season for the kicking teams. Where do we start. A good place would be Kalif Raymond’s 40-yard punt return in the first quarter that set up Tennessee’s second touchdown. Andre Roberts coughed up a fumble on a kickoff in garbage time which set up the Titans sixth and final touchdown. He ended up with 138 yards on kickoffs, a function of getting six opportunities because Titans kicker Stephen Gostkowski wasn’t able to get touchbacks. His lone punt return went for a loss of one yard. Tyler Bass did make a 43-yard field goal, and Corey Bojorquez had a gorgeous 71-yard punt.

COACHING: F

The Bills should have had every advantage in this game, and instead, it looked like the Titans did. Titans coach Mike Vrabel had his team ready to play despite it having practiced only a couple times in the past two weeks. They were better prepared, far more efficient, committed fewer penalties, and way hungrier than the Bills. This was one of the worst performances ever for a Sean McDermott team in terms of preparation. The Bills may lose games, but they don’t usually look like a team that’s sleepwalking. That’s what they looked like Tuesday. On defense, Leslie Frazier has some major problems that he needs to rectify because right now, his defense is terrible. On offense, this was the first clunker for Allen, so we won’t go overboard in the criticism. It’s going to happen, especially with a QB as volatile as Allen.
